Young Lancers forced to grow fast

If there was a way to expedite development Lancers head coach J-P Circelli would likely be the first to sign up. His football team lost their season opener 42-14 at Waterloo this past weekend as a veteran Warriors team showed their experience against a young Lancers squad.

"It's players who are third year and didn't play in 2019 because they were freshmen. In most programs this is where you're going to be the core of your program and they just don't have that playing experience yet" said Circelli.

Down 40-0 in the 3rd quarter the Lancers had a lot of reasons to fold up the tent and go home but Circelli is encouraged by what he saw from his team in the second half. "Easy to mail it in but they didn't do that. They kept competing right til the end so that was encouraging".

The Lancers now have a bye week before their home opener October 2nd against Guelph.
