Wolves on the prowl

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

The North Star Wolves are a team on a mission this season. They won the AA championship last season and made it to OFSAA where they finished 4th. We're hoping to do better than we did last year." said grade 11 left side hitter Lauren Essenpreis. "Hopefully we can get a medal."

The Wolves are off to a 2-0 start and have swept both of their matches. "I think we're definitely driven. Everybody is fighing for it. Most people on the team now were on the team last year so we're all really wanting it this year." said Essenpreis who also plays for the South County Bandits 17U team that is ranked 4th in the province.

She has been playing volleyball since she was 10 and loves the environment. Essenpreis would like to play division-one in the U.S. one day.

In the meantime she's focused on helping her team finish the first semester undefeated. North Star swept Kingsville Thursday and have yet to drop a set. They host Riverside on the 19th before heading into the holiday break.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
