Wolves earn win for first year coach

The Northstar Wolves rookie head coach Joel Charron was quick to deflect any credit thrown his way after his team shutout Brennan 19-0 to give him his first win. "Feels good man. All credit to these kids. We've only been practicing for two and a half weeks. They had to learn a whole new offence. They put in this work. They really busted some butt today.

The victory was significant for a school that almost didn't field a team this season. For Charron it's the most focused he's ever been on a sideline. "It was hard. Gotta stay focused. I think that's the first game I've ever coached where, my ten years, I was focused from beginning to end. It's a lot but it's fun. Luckily I have a lot of good coaches in my circle that I rely on and I get to ask for advice."

Charron was pumped up and his passion was on full display during his post game talk.

Sawyer Krokos scored both touchdowns for North Star. Kyle Jones put the boot on a couple of long punts for singles while Steve Craner hit a 22-yard field goal. Ashton Fevreau scored two touchdowns that were called back and seemed to be in the thick of many defensive plays. "It felt great man. Last season we went off really weak. New head coach. It's just a grateful day to come out here and beat the Cards 19-0. It's just a pleasure to be on this team."

North Star is back at Holy Names October 12th when they take on St. Joe's.

Brennan drops to 0-2 and face the Lasers Friday October 6th at Sandwich.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
