Windsor hosting NFL Draft party

Downtown Windsor won't be as busy as Detroit when the NFL Draft kicks off April 25th but there will be things going on to celebrate the game of football in our community.

The big day in our city is April 27th with the football party beginning at noon. There are a lot of activities scheduled to take place in front of City Hall that day including an NFL Canada Fan Experience, a big screen to watch the draft, a football skills clinic and NFL Fan Competitions (start practicing your best cheer and/or touchdown dance).

"It's a touchdown for our region," said Ward 3 city councillor Renaldo Agostino. "The biggest names of NFL players from our region will be in Downtown Windsor's end zone."

So far those players include Luke Willson, Brett Romberg, Dakoda Shepley and O.J. Atogwe. with more expected to join the roster. They will be schedule to meet with fans throughout the event.

Activities end at 6pm and then shift to a block party on Ouellette between Park and University until 11pm.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
