Windsor high school team wins Detroit title

A group of high school players from Windsor recently won the Derrick Coleman Elite League title beating the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy in the championship game. "I am super proud of the kids fighting and scratching every week." said head coach Jamie Stewart of Elite Basketball Training Academy. "They really believed in themselves and outwilled every team in the playoffs."

Despite having only five players Team Massey found a way to win. The team was led by freshman Jacy Zhang. "In the semi final game Jacy took over and personally led us to the championship game with 5 NBA threes and 21 pts."

The performance of the Massey standout earned him some praise from Mark White, head coach of the Summit Academy team out of Romulus, Michigan. "I think he's a great prospect for his class. I love his skill and confidence. I believe he could be a division 1 PG."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
