Windsor has upper hand over Lakehead

The University of Windsor men's hockey team earned a 4-0 win over Lakehead in game one of their best-of-three semi-final series. "We stayed with it. We bend but we don't break."

Grant Spence gave the Lancers a 1-0 lead early in the first period but it was Lakehead pushing the issue during the first two periods. "We kinda knew that they were going to have a push but we showed resilience and we just kinda beared down and stuck to what we needed to do and just got through it." said forward Olivier Pouliot.

With the game tied at one, former Windsor Spitfire Anthony Stefano sprung Keegan McMullen open with a bank shot off the boards through the neutral zone. McMullen picked up the puck, went across the crease and slid it into the net for an 2-0 lead.

"That second goal gives us a cushion where we don't have to feel as stressed out there and kinda get back to the basics." Pouliot said.

Windsor goaltender Nathan Torchia made 26 saves for the win as the Lancers now head to Lakehead for games two and three Friday and Saturday.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
