Sutherland Cup final heating up

Every game is an important one at this time of the year. A big one is set to be played Thursday night in Leamington. Trailing 2-0 in the best-of-seven Sutherland Cup final, the Stratford Warriors responded with a convincing 6-2 win at home Monday night to cut the deficit in half. "Tough playing a back to back at this point in the season." said Flyers head coach Dale Mitchell. "Especially second one being on the road."

The Warriors' offence awakened from its deep slumber in game 3 at home. After scoring only two goals in the first two games Stratford managed to put six pucks past Leamington goaltender Bryce Walcarius. "They had their backs up against the wall and played more desperate than us." Mitchell said.

The Flyers have home ice advantage heading into game 4 at the Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre Thursday.

"Up to us to defend it tomorrow."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
