Spits miss opportunity

The Windsor Spitfires had a chance to climb out of the Western Conference basement Sunday afternoon against Sarnia but lost 6-5 in overtime.

Windsor squandered a 3-0 lead as Sarnia scored three unanswered goals in the second period to tie it. Cole Davis, with a wicked snipe at 13:56, restored Windsor's lead but Ryan Brown put the Sting up 5-4 with 2:29 left in the game.

Oliver Peer salvaged a point for the home team scoring his 22nd of the year with 1:04 left sending the packed house of over 6,400 at the WFCU Centre into a frenzy. Ryan Abraham, who scored the first two goals of the game, was called for hooking with 1.6 seconds left in regulation. Sarnia took advantage as Easton Wainwright scored on the lone shot 36 seconds into the extra frame earning the Sting the win and valuable extra point.
