Spits Johnston chosen by Dallas

Wyatt Johnston moved up and was taken in the first round of the NHL Draft Friday night by the Dallas Stars. The Windsor Spitfires forward was ranked as a second or third round pick but increased his stock by helping team Canada win gold at the U18 World Championships earlier this year. He had 2 goals and 2 assists in seven games.

In his rookie season with the Spits he put up 12 goals and 18 assists in 53 games.

Here's what Elite Prospects has to say about the 6'1, 176 lbs center before the draft.

"Johnston runs the right routes in the offensive zone, supporting teammates by occupying pockets of space and by arriving in scoring spots and the net at the right time to bang in rebounds. He slides passes through defensive layers, holds onto the puck to wait for lanes to open, or creatively aim shots on the goalie's pads to have them pinball into the open slot for trailing attackers,"
