Spits goalie backlog could benefit Vipers

The Windsor Spitfires acquired 17-year old Joseph Costanzo from the Niagara Ice Dogs Tuesday afternoon creating a backlog of goalies on their roster.

The Spits have Costanzo, overage goalies Matt Onuska and Xavier Medina plus 18-year old Kyle Downey, who was the team's second round pick in 2020. General manager Bill Bowler was quoted on the team's website saying, “Joey is a welcome addition to our hockey club. He is ultra competitive and has a lot of potential. He was a second round pick that we liked in his draft year.”

The LaSalle Vipers aren't sure how the goaltending scenario will play out with the Spits but team officials would be interested in discussing Downey's return to the team if he becomes available. The Caledon, Ontario native suited up for 12 games with LaSalle last season posting a 2.60 goals against average while winning seven games.
