Spits cut ties with Smith after 21 games

The rumours are no more. The Windsor Spitfires have cut ties with head coach Jerrod Smith after promoting him to bench boss this past summer.

The Spits are toiling in the basement of the OHL with a 4-16-1 record and are currently on an eight-game losing skid. Windsor is the only team with over 100 goals against (125) after 21 games. Flint is a distant second-worst with 87 against.

Smith is the first in-season coaching casualty since Moe Mantha was terminated during the 2005 season.

The Spits have called a news conference with general manager Bill Bowler Tuesday at 1:15.
