After days of speculation the LaSalle Vipers have made it official. Kyle Downey is returning to LaSalle. "Getting Downey back is a huge boost for us." said head coach Matt Beaudoin."
When the Windsor Spitfires added depth to their goaltending future, the present was shaken up a bit. The Spitfires acquired Joseph Costanzo from Niagara creating a backlog of netminders in Windsor.
Downey, a second round pick by the Spitfires in 2020, was the odd guy out for the time being.
"We believe in Kyle." said general manager Bill Bowler. "As we know the GOJHL produces a ton of OHL'ers and we're hoping he has some success there."
Downey suited up in 12 games for the Vipers last season going 7-4-1 while posting one shutout. "He was an important players for us during our run last year and there's lots of familiarity with him and the guys on our team." said Beaudoin. "He's a top calibre goalie and we're all excited he's here."
LaSalle now has a goalie dilemma of their own Downey joining Tre Altiman and Tyler Bouck, both Spitfires U-18 draft picks.
The Vipers host London Sunday afternoon at 2:30.
