The Benesov, Czechia native was chosen 46th overall in this year's CHL Import Draft and finishing his season with the HC Plzen U20 team. He also suited up for eighteen games with the Czechia U18 team.

“Josef is an important addition for our team.” Said Spits' general manager Bill Bowler. “He is a versatile defender who plays an enthusiastic physical style.”

The Spits opened a spot for Eichler when they traded Daniil Sobolev to Niagara. The 18-year old joins Swiss defenceman Rodwin Dionicio as the team's two import players.
