Saints upset by Bruins

Ranked 4th in the latest OCAA poll this week, there was optimism for the St. Clair College women's soccer team heading into their playoff opener against Sheridan Wednesday night. The Saints finished the season 7-2-1 and faced a 4-6 Bruins team they beat 2-0 earlier in the season.

The Saints' hopes of returning to the Final Four for a second straight year vanished with one shot early in the second half. Grace Makarewicz broke down the far side, shipped a shot on the fly from 15 yards out that went bar down in the 59th minute.

St. Clair suffocated Sheridan for a long stretch but could not find the back of the net as they were upset and their hopes for a long playoff run dashed.

Saints head coach Steve Vagnini was visibly disappointed following the game and shared a thought with Powerplay Sports. "Beyond disappointing," Vagnini said. "The accountability has never been there all year. Coaches loses games and player win them. This is on me. 100%. This is on me."

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
