The St. Anne baseball team is heading to OFSAA following Thursday's 5-4 win over the Ancaster Royals. The Saints opened up a 4-0 lead but the Royals cut the deficit to one later in the game.
With a man on third in the 6th inning, Keagan Knowler hit a sacrifice fly to give St. Anne what turned out the game-winning run. Gavin Campbell entered the game in the 7th and shutdown the visitors to send the 6th seed to the Final 4 in London next week.
"We have good players but nobody really stood out," Head coach Steve Burke told Powerplay Sports. "Everybody contributed. We were getting pitching for everybody. We were getting hits from people when we needed it. Sacrifice bunts when we needed it. It was perfect. Proud of these guys."
The Saints arrived a year early according to Burke. The team had an underwhelming 3-4 regular season but committed to being better when the season mattered. "I really thought this year would be an experience and next year would be the one." Burke said of his team which has only one grade 12 player.
Villanova was seeded 2nd heading into the OFSAA West Regionals but lost their first game of the tournament and was eventually knocked out by the top-seeded Mississauga St. Martin Secondary School Mustangs.
St. Anne advances to the semi-finals and play Etobicoke's Bishop Allen in London Tuesday at 10:30am. Venue to be determined.
