The first inning set the tone for opening night at St. Clair College's new South Campus Field. The first pitch was a strike thrown by Amy Claydon in the top of the first. The first hit was a double to the wall by St. Clair's lead off hitter Shae-Lyn Murphy.

The Saints scored eight runs in the opening frame and cruised to an 11-1 victory over the Humber Hawks in their season opener.

Murphy and Sarah Vellinga each went 3-3 at the plate. Judy Lafleur hit a first inning triple to clear the bases and had four runs batted in.

Amy Claydon pitched four innings allowing 2 hits and one earned run while striking out six Hawks. Rya Cowan closed out the game with a clean inning as St. Clair opened with an 11-1 win over Humber.

The Saints dropped five first inning runs en route to a 14-5 win in the nightcap. Claydon went 2-3 with 4 rbi's. Murphy went 4-5 which included the first homer hit at the stadium. St. Clair is in London Saturday to play Durham and Mohawk before closing out the weekend Sunday against Seneca and Humber.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
