A year and a half of seasoning has brought out the best in the St. Clair men's volleyball team. A weekend sweep has the men's riding a four-game win streak and looking at a 4-1 record. "Very happy." said head coach Shawn Reaume. "Everybody's doing exactly what they need to be doing."
The Saints came back from a 2-1 deficit against Humber Saturday to win 3-2 in a thriller at the Sportsplex. "That was a big mental hurdle to get over. That's the first time I've beaten Humber." said Reaume, who is in his 6th year at the helm. "To see the guys drop one, take one, get frazzled, come back from it and then see that Humber was that team that was frazzled by us, that's big. It's hard to win and especially hard to win against a team that is used to winning.
St. Clair followed that up with a 3-1 victory over Sheridan Sunday afternoon. "It establishes us as a team." said 2nd year outside hitter Kale Wilkinson who leads the OCAA with 94 kills, 31 more than his closest opponent. "Last year was a lot. We were a lot younger of a team. We put in the training (in the off-season). Come season time that's when it's important and it's paying off so far.
The Saints finished 8-10 last year after going 1-8 in a shortened season 2021-22 season. They'll put their record to the test Wednesday as they head to London to take on 4-0 Fanshawe. The Falcons were ranked 2nd in Canada last week. "We get to test our mental fortitude for sure." said Reaume. "We did play them in pre-season and had some success in some spots so it's gonna be a lot of fun."
