Saints playing for bronze at nationals

The St. Clair men's soccer team is playing for the bronze medal at the national championships after beating the VIU Mariners 2-1 Friday afternoon in the bronze medal semi finals. "Proud of the kids." said head coach Mike Baraslievski who lost a tough 1-0game to the B.C. champs from Douglas College Thursday night.

"We talked about character. We talked about how bad do you wanna close the tournament and be in a bronze medal game. Dig deep. Show some character and intestinal fortitude."

Massimo Pollard got the Saints on the board first on a penalty kick in the 12th minute. Moussa Nizam scored his second of the tournament with two minutes left in regulation on a brilliant cross by Patrick Maheux for the win.

St. Clair will face Keyano College for a second time in the tournament at 1:30 Saturday afternoon. The Saints beat the Alberta champs 3-1 to open the tournament Wednesday.

Our Anthony Scalzo caught up with Ilija Pavicic following Thursday heartbreaking loss to Douglas College.
