Rookie head coach Jordan Collison hits ground running

Jordan Collison had such a great experience as a student-athlete at the University of Windsor he wanted to return as a coach. "Much of that can be attributed to the coaches I was lucky enough to work with." said the Southhampton, Ontario native.

Collison considered the late Gary Malloy a close friend who influenced him his life. The 31-year old was named the new head coach of the cross country team in August filling a position left vacant by Malloy when he died suddenly in May of 2019. Malloy spent 20 years as part of the Lancers coaching staff.

"I was fortunate enough to be coached by both him and Anna Patterson during my time at The University of Windsor. Having the opportunity to coach alongside Anna and continue some of the traditions set by Gary is something I feel very lucky to be a part of.

Collison was helping the cross country team transition through the pandemic last fall and is excited to be able to focus on getting his team back to being competitive in the OUA. "We have an amazing group of student-athletes who are willing to put in the work and do what it takes to get back to the level of competing for championships.

A Lancer from 2013-2016, Collison helped lead the cross country team to a pair of second place finishes at the provincial level in 2014 and 2015. In 2016 he also helped Windsor cap off an amazing stretch that saw the program win 16 OUA track and field titles in 18 years as the Lancers won gold.

The Lancers had an intersquad practice last weekend giving Collison one last look at runner before he made his final selections Monday. He provides insight into this year's teams in this video brought to you by Scarehouse Windsor.

Prior to the meet Sylvia Dean, a fifth year former football player who is now a rookie runner, got the team pumped during their skits, a tradition carried over from the Malloy years.

The Lancers head to London September 24th for their first meet of the season at the Western Invitational. Windsor has six scheduled meets including the provincial championships October 29th and nationals November 12th.
