Ro connects with youth

"They will walk into this tournament feeling so supported and lifted they can’t lose."

Former World Boxing Champion Kara Ro took a moment to hang out with boxers from across the province who are in Windsor for a Boxing Ontario Female Development Camp. "What Boxing Ontario and Border City Boxing has done with this training camp to compete in Toledo is brilliant."

The boxers will head to Toledo, Ohio for the USA Boxing National Women's Championships this weekend. "Not only will these fighters have the opportunity to train and spar with several other women (which is the best preparation to compete against woman), the team atmosphere they have created will build so much camaraderie they will walk into this tournament feeling so supported and lifted they can’t lose." said Ro who was a guest speaker Wednesday at St. Clair College.

With a career 18-0 record, Ro shared some insight on being stronger in the ring. "Basically don’t get discouraged by set backs (injuries, loses, fights that fall through, negative people/criticism etc) that is your time to pivot and use it as fuel to be even greater."

Ro will be coaching and announcing at Motor City Cage Night at the Motor City Casino in Detroit August 11th.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
