RMHA Christmas Tournament returns

Riverside Minor Hockey president Anne Marie Schofield was busy but happy on the first day of the associations' Christmas tournament. "We're back full force. On multiple levels it was great."

Schofield says the kitchen is back after not being available through pandemic restriction a year ago. Also returning is the presence of a European team. The Frederickshaven White Eagles from Denmark arrived in Windsor Monday with sticks and some of their gear missing.

"In typical Riverside hockey fashion we procured and gathered multiple sticks and even the (Windsor) Spitfires came to the rescue as well."

Schofield says the Spits donated a bunch of used sticks and presented them to the team prior to their exhibition game against Riverside's U16 team. The White Eagles open round robin play in the U18 division against Riverside Wednesday at 12:45 in the WFCU's AM800 rink.

Check out action from today's U13 game between the Windsor Jr. Spitfires and the Kent Cobras plus a goal by Frederikshaven's Magnus Bertlesen in this video brought to you by the St. Clair Alumni Association.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
