Riverside wins battle of undefeated's vs Herman

Riverside and Herman entered Wednesday's contest with identical 3-0-1 records. The Stingers earned a 3-0 win to gain sole possession of first place in the City Group 1 division. "I'm really proud of our team," said Tamim Bashir who led the Stingers with a pair of goals. "We came out strong and we knew what to do."

Soycan Acar scored the other Riverside goal while Robert Koharski earned the clean sheet for the Stingers. "First clean sheet ever." Koharski said followed by a big laugh. Normally a sweeper, Koharski has never played in goal but has been filling in for Riverside's two goalies, who missed both games this week. "Tallest guy on the team. He (head coach Scott Patriquin) put me in there. Usually the guys have my back. I think we did really well this game. I'm having fun."

Herman head coach Eric Muscedere took the loss in stride. "Full marks to Riverside. They played great. They earned everything they got," Muscedere said. "It was a wonderful learning experience for us and we're really looking to take this and move forward into playoffs. We have lots of quality players. I really do love our team and I think moving forward I wouldn't want to play us."

The Griffins drop to third at 3-1-1. Westview Freedom Academy is on a roll after beating Walkerville 11-0. They move to second with a 3-0-2 record.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
