Riverside Stingers OFSAA-bound

It was a whirlwind week for the Riverside Stingers sr. girls volleyball team. They faced off against L'Essor in the WECSSAA AA final Wednesday and grinded through a see-saw battle that went five sets.

They took a stranglehold of the final set and earned the title in an epic battle. Check out some of the action and post game interviews below.

The next night the Stingers welcomes the Wolfpack from Sarnia's Great Lakes.

"All year we have been focusing on playing as a team and playing for the person next to you," Head coach Josh Muldoon told Powerplay Sports. "In both the WECSSAA and SWOSSAA finals, when one player made a mistake, every kid stepped up to pick up their teammate. That’s what good teams do."

There was no hangover as Riverside swept aside the Wolfpack in straight sets, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-7, to punch their ticket to the OFSAA championships in early March.

"We are going to continue to keep that mindset heading into OFSAA. I’m really excited. Couldn’t ask for a better group of kids to make the trip up to North Bay with. Thanks for all the work you do for local sports." Muldoon said.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
