Ravens delivered dominating performance

Updated: Jul 23, 2023

During the team huddle the Essex Ravens looked locked in for their quarterfinal game against Kingston and head coach Glen Mills sensed the hunger. "We had a great week of practice. Kids were dialed in and I knew we were ready."

The Ravens scored two quick touchdowns in the first quarter to set the tone. Three minutes into the game the offensive line opened up a big hole in the middle allowing Donavyn Osman to pick up 13 yards to the Grenadiers' one-yard line. He punched it in on the next play for a 7-0 Ravens lead.

Osman would score again on the next series forcing the ball in from 10-yards out. Quarterback Nick Dimovski connected with Keyanni Elliott on a 40-yard bomb that put Kingston on their heels facing a 28-0 deficit. The Ravens would go on to win 48-0. "I am very proud of the way our kids played and handled the situation and game." said Mills who showed some excitement after a third quarter Nick Baeni pick-6.

Essex will now travelled to Cornwall for the league semi-final July 29th against the Wildcats. "I think our kids are excited to play in the semi-finals and understand that we are defending champions and we are hungry to defend that championship."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
