Medina expected back. Tovell returns to LaSalle

With Xavier Medina expected back in the lineup when the Windsor Spitfires host the Owen Sound Attack, Matt Tovell is being returned to the LaSalle Vipers, "Back in LaSalle tomorrow night against Chatham at home so we're looking to get two points there", said Tovell.

The 19-year old has been with the Spits for the past three weeks and posted a shutout in his first OHL start against Flint. Vipers head coach Matt Beaudoin says, "100-percent" Tovell will be starting against the Maroons at home, "Getting Tovs back is a huge boost for our team. Having him back gives us some extra confidence knowing we have one of the top goalies in the league between the pipes for us" said Beaudoin.

Tovell was 8-4-1 before being called up by the Spits, "In LaSalle, working really hard and making sure I focus on the small details so when I had the chance to come up I would be ready.

The Spits have not said how long Tovell will be with the Vipers, "It's been fun coming up and playing a faster speed of hockey".

In other news, the Spits acquired forward Jacob Maillet from Guelph for a 5th round pick in 2022 and a conditional 12th rounder in 2024. Maillet has 2 goals and 4 assists in 23 games this season.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
