Makaric's coaching journey continues

Kyle Makaric is embarking on the next step in his coaching journey by joining the Flyers Academy. He'll lead the U15 AAA team for the 2024/25 season. "The prep school model and the opportunities that our players will have is something we are very excited about" Makaric told Powerplay Sports. "To be surrounded by some of the best hockey people locally it will be a great resource for players and coaches alike."

Makaric's staff includes assistant coaches Andy Paquette who'll also overlook skills development and Eric Palazzolo in charge of strength & conditioning and nutrition. Matt Anthony will be the team's goalie coach with Justin Solcz in place as GM.

With over ten years of experience Makaric was most recently on the bench with Kevin Hamlin at the University of Windsor. Before returning to the Lancers for the 2023 season Makaric coached in the CJHL in Ottawa where he led the Jr. Senators to a Bogart Cup championship in 2022.

"The experience in Ottawa was critical in my development as a coach." Makaric said. "The lessons learned in culture and leadership are things I will lean on as I continue to grow and develop. This step was important for the potential that it brings as a program."

Makaric doesn't know where his path as a coach is headed but he does know what he wants to accomplish while guiding young players. "The ultimate goal would be to shift the model and thought process on development in young hockey players," Makaric said. "The paths to the different branches of hockey are not linear and no two players get there the same way. By taking a deeper look at all of the ingredients that make high level athletes we can check all of the boxes, all in one place."
