Maggio nets 50th in Spits win

Jacob Maillet scored the game winner in overtime as the Windsor Spitfires beat Saginaw 6-5 Wednesday night at a packed WFCU Centre. "Everytime you think you're down these guys find a way. I'm real proud of them." said head coach Marc Savard.

Oliver Peer scored a pair of goals and captain Matthew Maggio scored his 50th of the season to become the first since Steve Ott to crack the milestone since 2001. "I've been trying my best not to think about it but I think it's just a huge relief." Maggio said.

The win along with a 7-4 London loss at Guelph Wednesday leaves the Spitfires in sole possession of first place in the Western Conference after 63 games. Windsor heads to the Soo for a back-to-back starting Friday against the Greyhounds. They are back home next Wednesday against the Storm.

Maggio scored his 50th on the same night Tim Findlay got his in the Soo back in 1996.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
