Local Sports Recap

Here's a look at some of the successes and news bits in our sports community this past weekend.

A lot of pro players were All in 4 ALS in support of Bob Jones including former Windsor Spitfire forward Adam Henrique of the Anaheim Ducks. The exhibition game featuring pro hockey players helped raise over $210,000.


Congratulations to UWAC and Team Ontario’s Emma Negri on her Bronze medal performance in the discus at The RCL National Youth Championships.


Big Congrats to Warlocks Alum, Josh “Crash” Rosa, and his Burlington Blaze Jr A team on WINNING the Ontario Junior Lacrosse League Championship! He had a fantastic final game with 2 goals and 2 assists. They head to Edmonton to play for the Minto cup later this month.


Villanova grad Aidan Belcastro is joining the Windsor Lancers this fall.


Women's Softball Add More Talent with Alivia Peterson. The 5’4” Peterson is a Windsor native but also attended Lutheran North High School (Macomb, MI) before graduating from St. Anne (Lakeshore). She can play the catcher position but will also help on the left side of the infield.


Congratulations to the Windsor Police members who competed and won the tug o’ war competition at this past weekend’s St. Andrew’s Society of Detroit Annual Highland Games.


The Caboto Thunder 2009 girls travelled to Niagara Falls to participate in the A.C. Douglas tournament. The team finished first in the preliminary round of the gold division and advanced to the final. In the final the girls defeated Guelph 1-0 to avenge an earlier loss to the same team in May. A strong defensive effort was shown giving up zero goals and scoring timely goals, Sophie Pop (2), Sarah Precup (2), and Arianna Piruzza. Congrats ladies on a great effort and a fantastic tournament result.


Big congratulations to our PeeWee Gold team! They won the South Shore Interlock Baseball Association year end league tournament this weekend. The team was undefeated. Way to go Riverside.


From Matt Todd Facebook post: 12U AAA Windsor Jr Stars AAA Baseball Club are headed to OBA’s Labour Day Weekend after winning the play down series with Riverside. After walking RS off in the 8th last night, the boys decided they wanted to play 9 today! Same result, a Stars win!!!


Congratulations to our 11U team sponsored by UE Enclosures on finishing in 1st place this weekend in the SSIBA wind-up tournament. Great work team.


OBA Silver Medalists!! Congratulations Barons!! Leamington is proud.


The Windsor Lady Expos U19 team won silver at the PWSA Provincial Grand Championships.


Windsor Spitfires draft pick Jack Nesbitt was added to Hockey Canada's National U-17 team summer meetings.
