Lidster can drive 55

It's been a fun week for Brady Lidster. The 3rd-year kicker set a school record with a 55-yard field goal as the Windsor Lancers beat Carleton on the road 18-15 last Saturday. The kick beat Dave Pegg's 53-yard make in 1974.

"It's just an enjoyable experience," said the St. Thomas, Ontario native. "I was happy to help out the team there, get the W."

Brady Lidster breaks 50-year old record

His effort earned him Windsor's Men's Athlete of the Week, OUA Special Teams Player of the week and his kick was the 2nd best OUA highlight of the week. "I'd have to say it's gotta be the biggest play so far in my career."

His athletic career prior to Windsor involved soccer and two positions in football (receiver and quarterback). Lidster says he started training as a kicker a couple of months before coming to Windsor and stuck with it.

"I like it because there's constant room for improvement, just like anything, but kicking you have to be locked into everything. It's basically trying to kick the same ball every time which is something that is very difficult to do but when you can do it I mean obviously it shows well." Lidster told Powerplay Sports.

He rushed the ball twice as a rookie in 2022 while making 15 of 17 field goal attempts along with 17 extra points made. Last season he was 14 of 24 with 26 extra points. So far this season he's 1-for2 having missed a 28-yarder against Queen's in the season opener before his record-breaking kick against the Ravens, which helped the Lancers improve to 2-0.

It's a bye week for Windsor as the prepare for their next game on September 14th at York before hosting the University of Toronto September 21st at Alumni Field.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
