LCCVI beats L'Essor for SWOSSA title

The dream season continues for one and ends for another as Petrolia's LCCVI beat L'Essor 4-1 in the SWOSSA final at Tecumseh Arena Tuesday afternoon. "I thought we played really well the whole time. We battled." said Lancers captain Felicia Park.

Dayna Robbins pounced on a scramble in the L'Essor crease in the second period to break a 1-1 tie. Almost four minutes later Teagan Cox wired a snap shot high blocker on Aigles' goaltender Cassandra Mercer for a comfortable 3-1 lead.

L"Essor dominated WECSSAA this season going 10-0 during the regular season with 38 goals for and four against but the Lancers used their size and skill to keep Les Aigles in check. "They had amazing chemistry together. They were making plays. We couldn't catch on. They were fast that we couldn't keep up with." said L'Essor assistant captain Justine Gorham.

The Lancers have been on a mission this season according to co-head coach Scott Watson. "We had a shot last year." said Watson whose team lost their league final a year ago. "This whole year we said this is our year. Now is our time. The girls continually ramped up and became more serious and focused. Especially over the last couple of weeks. They wanted this. They earned it. We're so proud of them."

LCVVI qualifies for OFSAA in Stratford beginning March 21st.
