Overtime heartbreak in game 2 forced a deciding game in the OUA men's hockey semifinal series between Windsor and Lakehead. The Lancers lost 2-1 in overtime Friday at Fort Williams Gardens and trailed 1-0 after the first period of the deciding game Saturday night with 3,500 fans cheering against them.
Mason Kohn scored his 4th of the series at 0:44 of the second period which snowballed into a flurry of three goals in a span of 2:24 as the Lancers jumped to a 3-1 lead. The Thunderwolves would get one back before the end of the period but Barrett Dachyshyn punched their ticket to the final with an empty netter.
"It's something these kids will remember for a lifetime." said head coach Kevin Hamlin. "It was really exciting."
The Lancers welcome UQTR to the Capri Recreation Complex Saturday night. Les Patriotes finished 21-4-1 during the regular season and are ranked 3rd nationally.
"We're playing the defending national champions and a team that nobody gives us much chance against. We'll see how it goes."
UQTR wiped out a 4-0 deficit in game 3 of their semi-final against Concordia Sunday to win 5-4 in overtime and take the series 2-1.
"It's a legit team but so are we." Hamlin said. "Keep this train rolling."
