Lancers serving up lots of losses this season

The Lancers softball team is enjoying the program's best season ever. Windsor is 9-1 and have the second best winning percentage in the Ontario University Softball league behind Laurier (11-1). "It's exciting," said head coach Francine Stadler. "I know this team has overcome so many obstablces and I'm really stressing attitude."

The Lancers have displayed the right attitude all season while displaying their fortitude, especially last weekend when they swept perrenial powerhouse Western. In the first game, Windsor came back from a run down in the 7th to send it to extras. The Mustangs scored a run in the 8th only to watch Windsor match them. They then took the lead in the 9th and were stunned by a two-run walk off homerun by Allison Dufour as the Lancers won 8-7.

"They are so resilient. They don't give up," Stadler proudly told Powerplay Sports. "They step it up and do whatever we need them to do."

They came back to win the second game 9-8. "This year I feel we're stronger. We have depth. I have 21 on the team. At the beginning of the season we knew we had something and they proved it."

The only blemish on their record came on September 15th when Windsor lost 7-6 to Laurier. The Lancers rebounded to smack the Golden Hawks 8-0 in the backend of the doubleheader.

Windsor look to continue their roll and will need to rely on their depth this weekend when they host three doubleheaders starting Friday Laurier.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
