The University of Windsor's men's volleyball team is at the top of the standings at the break with a 9-1 record. "Some good work by the boys in the first half of the season," Head coach James Gravelle told Powerplay Sports. "The group knows that we need to improve and are dedicating this month to preparing for a big push in the second half."
The Lancers closed out the first semester with a weekend sweep of Trent on November 23rd. Windsor won 27 sets and dropped seven overall and Gravelle says a big reason for their success is the work the team put in before the season started.
"A well balanced attack and a renewed focus on block/defense throughout our pre-season makes our team difficult to play."
Gravelle feels the Lancers will benefit from an exhibition weekend against Laval starting January 4th at the Toldo Lancer Centre.
They'll then open the second semester January 11 in Hamilton against three-time defending OUA champion McMaster, who are 4-6.
Last season Windsor finished 13-7 before bowing out in five sets in the first round of playoffs at Guelph. The Lancers are a seasoned team looking to continue their strong play in the new year.
"The group is experienced and learned some lessons last season that have helped in the tight moments." Gravelle said.
