Lancers forced to forfeit

Heartbreak for the women's hockey team. Their playoff game against Western Wednesday night has been cancelled due to Covid-19 protocols. The Lancers were forced to forfeit the game allowing the Mustangs to advance to the next round.

Things were going well for the Lancers women's hockey team. They had won four out of the last five games including two straight against Western. The team qualified for the playoffs for the first time in five years and were looking forward to hosting the Mustangs, "I'm thrilled to have the program back in playoffs and am excited to start things off at home playing in front of our fans", said assistant captain Amy Maitre earlier this week.

The lancers avoided last place in the OUA for the first time since 2018 and finished 4th in the West division with a 4-6-3-3 record.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
