Lancers football schedule released

Season features big ending for UWindsor football team

The OUA football schedule was released Wednesday and will see the Windsor Lancers open at home against Queen's on Saturday, August 24th. "I think we're all very excited about what's gonna be coming up this year just because of what we've built through the past four years." Head coach J-P Circelli told Powerplay Sports.

Windsor heads to Carleton a week later before an early season bye in Week 3. They'll visit York on September 14th before returning home for Alumni Week against Ottawa September 21st. They'll play at Alumni Field the following week against the University of Toronto.

The Lancers head to Guelph October 5th and will get to enjoy Thanksgiving Weekend at home with a Friday game vs Laurier. Circelli's team will head to Western for the regular season finale October 19th.

"The fact that we get to compete against the top two teams in the conference from the past year says that people have been impressed with us and we get marquee matchups when the chips are down."

Windsor finished 6-2 last season and won their first home playoff game since 1975. In a game they were winning through three quarters, the Lancers dropped a 21-10 decision to Western in late September and lost a heartbreaker at Laurier 21-14 in the regular season finale. The Mustangs beat the Golden Hawks in the 115th Yates Cup final.

"For me personally I like the idea that you're thinking playoff football in the regular season heading into the playoffs," Circelli said. "I think it's a positive for our team based on how tough it was last year navigating a tough stretch in the middle of the season."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
