Lancers football gearing up

The focus of the off-season for the Windsor Lancers football team was to simply to improve. "Each day get better, that's it." said third-year running back Liam Talbot.

Training camp opened last weekend and Talbot is happy to be back. "It's good to hit. It's good to feel the contact. It's good to be back together as a team. We're all excited."

The London, Ontario native is one of over 120 players at camp looking for a chance to help the Lancers take the next step in the development of the program. Windsor posted a 6-2 regular season record a year ago, their best since 2006, and fell one game short of making it to the Yates Cup. It was a heartbreaking loss that saw the Lancers lose 21-14 at Laurier.

"The off-season's been tough," Talbot told Powerplay Sports. "We haven't taken any days for granted. One day at a time. Win our last game."

The Lancers open the season on August 24th at Alumni Field when they host the Queen's Gaels.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
