Lancer women's basketball continues hot streak

The women's basketball team at the University of Windsor finished the first semester with their third straight win beating Brock 75-61 Saturday night at the Toldo Lancer Centre. Leah Tate lead all scorers with 19 points for the Lancers who won for the ninth time in their last ten games. Windsor finishes 8-3 and are tied with Guelph for first in the OUA West Division.



The men's team lost to Brock 91-81 and finish 5-6 at the break.


The women's hockey team broke a three-game losing skid with a 1-0 shootout win over TMU in Toronto Saturday afternoon. The Lancers are 8-7 and third in the West. The men's team (9-7) split losing 3-2 Saturday against TMU before rebounding with a 2-1 at Brock. Kevin Hamlin's team finishes the first semester Wednesday at home against Western.



Humber downs St. Clair


In a highly anticipated matchup, the St. Clair women's volleyball team lost for the first time this season 3-0 against Humber. "Doesn't surprise me that they were serving tough with us," said head coach Julie-Ann Milling. "It'll just be something we work on for next time." The rematch is set for January 11th at Humber. St. Clair finishes the first half with a 10-1 record after beating Sheridan 3-0 Sunday afternoon.


After losing a tough 3-2 match to the top ranked Hawks Saturday the men's volleyball team rebounded with a 3-0 sweep of Sheridan Sunday and improved to 3-8.


The men's basketball team dropped a tight 89-88 decision at Humber Saturday night. Mazin Tiea and Darnell Peddie each had 18 points to pace the Saints who beat Sheridan 81-78 to finish the first semester 9-1. St. Clair will host Sheridan and Humber during the second weekend of the new year.


The women's team beat Sheriday 74-64 Sunday and are 4-5 on the season.


The Windsor Spitfires split their weekend losing 6-2 at Guelph Friday before doubling up on Owen Sound 6-3 Saturday. Captain Liam Greentree had a goal and three assists against the Attack and moved back into the top five in scoring. He currently sits 4th with 44 points. The Spits are off until Saturday when they host Kitchener at the WFCU Centre.



OJHL: Flyers lose

The Leamington Flyers dropped a 3-1 decision at home Sunday night against the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. Colton Smith notched with league-leading 32nd goal of the year to open the scoring. The Flyers host Collingwood Thursday. The Blues have won nine of their last ten games.


LaSalle in third


The LaSalle Vipers lost 4-0 to the Stratford Warriors Friday night and sit in third in the GOJHL's Western Conference with 34 points. They trail the Warriors and St. Mary's Lincolns by a point and have a three point edge over 4th place London. The Vipers are on the road Saturday at Fort Erie before returning home Sunday for a 1:30 game against St. Catharines.


Essex and Lakeshore continue their winning ways


The Essex 73's got a goal and four assists from Patrick McManus and beat Walpole Island 12-1 Saturday. Matthew Crawford had three goals and an assist for the 73's who host Blenheim Tuesday night. Lakeshore beat Dresden 3-0 Sunday afternoon and host Amherstburg Friday. The 73's lead the Stobbs Division with 40 points with Lakeshore trailing by two points.
