Lakeshore regains home ice

Updated: Apr 24, 2024

Trevor Larue scored the game-winning goal at 5:32 of overtime as Lakeshore struck first in the Schmalz Cup semi-finals with a 3-2 win over New Hamburg Tuesday night. "Good hard working shift, Gignac won a battle made a good pass over to Novacco who took a nice shot and I was fortunate enough to get a stick on it." Larue told Powerplay Sports.

The Canadiens opened the scoring on a Ethan Galvan first period goal at 15:16. The Firebirds struck for two quick goals in the third with Antonio Pasqualino and Jake Thompson scoring less than two minutes apart with less than five minutes to go. Matteo Frattaroli notched his first of the playoffs at 16:57 to send it to overtime.

"New Hamburg is a good team who battle hard. Nice to steal one on the road for game one and get home ice back." Larue said.

Lakeshore is back home for game 2 Friday night at 8pm. "They’re gonna come out with a bitter taste from an overtime game, we gotta be ready from the start and give our crowd a good game to watch."

Here's a look at the series schedule.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
