L'Essor repeats as 2A champs

Les Aigles de L'Essor used a strong easterly wind to their advantage and scored three first half goals as they repeated as 2A champs. "I thought it was really good we scored right off the bat coz then we could play defensively and hold the game." said Elle Beaulieu who scored a goal to help L'Essor beat Tecumseh Vista 3-1 in the championship game Wednesday at Holy Names.

All three goals by Les Aigles were scored in the first eight minutes of the game and came off the foot of Alex Smith. "I put it in off the corner and she (Beaulieu) got a header. The other two the wind just carried the ball to the net off the corners." said Smith who scored the other two for L'Essor. "It really helped us out in the first half to get ahead. Maggie McGregor scored the lone tally for the Vortex.

Smith and Beaulieu helped L'Essor qualify for SWOSSA. "For the season we just had a lot of chemistry so it was really nice just to win again especially after we were playing in the AAA division (3-3) and had a lot of tough games." Smith said.

"It's our last year playing high school soccer and we're never going to experience this chemistry again so I just think it's nice." Beaulieu added.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
