Bryanna Kressler says being hit with the OCAA female athlete of the year honours was an amazing surprise. "To be the first student-athlete from St. Clair and the third softball player ever to have done this is such a crazy achievement." said the Kitchener native who helped the Saints win the OCAA and CCSA championships last fall.
Kressler is a fourth-year transfer from Wayne State University who played third and batted .529 while setting the OCAA record with 45 runs and 51 RBI's. She also pitched and was virtually unhittable in the CCSA final against Western. Kressler was 6-0 during the regular season with a 0.21 ERA while striking out 48 batters.
She won the prestigious Al Hoffman Athlete of the Year at last week's athletic banquet. Kressler explains the feeling she had when she heard her name called. "I felt a sense of pride and excitement for sure. All of the hard work and insane amount of hours of practices, games, travelling and weight training that was put in this season has paid off."
Head coach Doug Wiseman recently took the team to Arizona for a tournament and the Saints went 7-1. Kressler is excited to return this fall. "Our team was strong this season but it's going to be just as strong, if not stronger next season. Over the summer our team trains relentlessly to be the very best we can be and that's exactlyl what we are going to do again this summer."
