Knobby's Kids is a program launched in 2006 by Robert "Knobby" Knudsen, Jerry Slavic and Frank Spry providing free hockey to kids between the ages of 5 and 14. They players learn to skate and play hockey every Saturday morning from December until early March. Equipment, Ice, skating and coaching instruction is free.

"We at Knobby’s Kids and the one hundred and thirty-seven kids and their families would like to extend a huge thank you to True Hockey, The Windsor Spitfires and rookie Ethan Belchetz for the large donation of new hockey equipment.” said Marty Kerester, program director, in a release from the Windsor Spitfires. “We try to keep the kids on the ice as safe as possible so getting this new equipment will help us get rid of any equipment we have now that is almost unusable. It is very important that we replenish to make sure we have enough good equipment to hand out every year.”

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
