Knights capitalize on Spitfires mistakes

Windsor Spitfires head coach Trevor Letowski was pleased with his team's effort but two key moments had them on the wrong side of a 6-3 decision. With the game tied 1-1 Antonio Stranges scored with three seconds left in the first period to give the visitors the lead. Jason Willms notched his first goal since being traded to London from Barrie shorthanded as the Knights opened a two-goal lead. Will Cuylle cut the deficit to one at 15:01 on a wrist shot from the left wing.

Three minutes later the Knights put the game out of hand with a pair of goals 21 seconds apart. Luke Evangelista scored his 18th of the year on a scramble out front followed by a Nathan Dunkley breakaway goal.

The win moved the Knights to within a point of third place in the OHL's Western Conference which is currently occupied by the Spits.

The victory helped Knights head coach Dale Hunter become only the third coach in OHL history to hit the 800-win plateau. Hunter joined Bert Templeton and Brian Kilrea in the club and appreciates the players that helped him achieve the milestone.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
