Knights punch ticket to soccer final

The Holy Names sr. girls soccer team is heading to the WECSSAA final after dispatching St. Joe's 4-0 Wednesday afternoon. Alessia Fanella, Evanna Piasentin, Yasmine Kadri and Marissa Vespa tallied for the Knights.

"It's exciting. We're back," said Fanella who opened the scoring midway through the first half. "I think we were a little nervous. They came in strong but that one goal made us relax a little, more comfortable."

Alessia Venosa earned the clean sheet in goal for the Knights. "Just because we played them before and we won (4-1 on May 2nd) doesn't mean we were going to win," said the grade 10 netminder who doesn't have a veteran team in front of her like she did last year when the team won OFSAA gold a year ago. "Last year it was mainly grade 12's. I feel like I was safe at the back."

This season Holy Names have four novice players and five junior players but haven't missed a beat winning six games and tying one. "I feel it helped me this year."

Holy Names will face Villanova May 22nd at St. Clair College at 4pm. The Knights and Wildcats tied they're regular season match in a scoreless draw in early April.

"With last year being my first year it was incredible," said Venosa who would like to relive the feeling this spring. "And I want the grade 9's to experience that too because that's how I experienced it in grade 9."
