Knights come back to win AAA title

After winning the regular season title with a 7-1 record Holy Names found themselves on their heels against 4-4 Villanova in the high school AAA final.

The Wildcats took the first two sets 25-23 and 25-20. With their backs against the wall the Knights found themselves in survival mode. They trailed 11-8 early in the third but rallied to take the set. Holy Names carried the momentum into the 4th and jumped out to a 22-14 lead only to see that evaporate as Villanova pushed back led by the McLinden twins who were a force at the net. The Wildcats went on a 7-0 run to make it 22-21 but a kill by Hannah Hage stopped the bleeding as the Knights went on to win the set 25-21.

The fifth and deciding set was a thriller that was tied at 13. A missed serve and a difficult set turned into the winning points as Holy Names completed the comeback in the AAA final for a second straight year.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
