Kennedy breaks UWindsor record

Updated: Feb 20, 2023

It was a bittersweet night for Thomas Kennedy. He scored 16 points and became the University of Windsor's all-time leading scorer with 1,479 points. "When I first came here that was my target." Kennedy said. "To get that record, be in the conversation of greatest Lancer ever.

Kennedy passes Enrico Diloreto who finished his career (2009-2014) with 1,477 points. "Many of those names I worked past are all-time greats. One's my coach (Greg Surmacz). Knock off a guy who used to train me Enrico Diloreto at #1, those are some all-time historically great basketball players at this university so it's an honour."

The St. Joe's grad is in the top 10 of almost every Lancer basketball record. With three blocks tonight, Kennedy vaulted over Rotimi Osuntola Jr. (2011-2015) and is now the all-time leader with 114 blocks.

Check out the moment he broke the record and the acknowledgement he received from the University and fans shortly thereafter in the following video. More to come Sunday.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
