Jacob Robson, Letters Home

Jacob Robson is playing ball for the Sydney Blue Sox of the Australia Baseball League. The Blue Sox are heading into the final week of the regular season. The Massey grad took a moment to write home and tell us about his experience down under.

Robson writes:

"I've had an amazing experience so far in Australia. My team mate’s, the coaching staff and personnel have been so welcoming and kind to the other imports and myself. The city of Sydney is beautiful and it’s been awesome to explore on my down time. I view this time as an opportunity to improve and progress on the baseball field because ultimately my goal is still to play in the big leagues. The fact that I can continue to train and face live pitching in a country that is basically covid free is a blessing. The pandemic has affected so many people negatively and most people in North America are not able to go out in public without putting themselves at risk. I’m very grateful for my time so far and I know I’m right where I’m supposed to be. I’m looking forward to the 2021 season with the Tigers and hope I can play at Comerica Park sooner than later".

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
