Hockey roundup: Essex strikes first



The highly anticipated Stobbs Division final is underway and did not disappoint in game one. Kale Couvillon scored twice for Essex as the 73's drew first blood with a 4-3 in Lakeshore. Spencer Higginbottom netted a pair of goals for the Canadiens. Game 2 is in Essex Tuesday night.

The Leamington Flyers fell short Sunday night at home against Milton losing 3-1.

The Menace opened the scoring 17 seconds into the game as Connor Driscoll scored his third of the playoffs. Jayden Levesque gave the visitors a 2-0 lead midway through the period.


No scoring in the second. Nathan Leek injected energy into Nature Fresh Farms Recreation Centre scoring at 2:48 of the third as the crowd of about 1,200 jumped to their feet. The Flyers outshot the Menace 16-8 in the final period but could pot the equalizer as Driscoll hit an empty net to tie their second round OJHL series 1-1. Game 2 is Tuesday in Milton. Game 3 in Leamington Thursday.




LaSalle fights way back into best-of-seven second round series against London

It was a must-win situation in LaSalle for game 3 Sunday night with the Vipers trailing London 0-2 in the playoff series.


Things looked peachy early on with Adrian Manzo and Jasken Ward scoring for the home team in the first. As LaSalle found out in Game 1, The Nats have the ability to bounce back in a hurry and they did as Nolan Milne scored back to back goals to tie the game in the second. Andrew Kotevski scored at 10:33 to give LaSalle a 3-2 lead.


Zachary LeBlanc tied it at 7:28 of the third but Kyle Greene broke the stalemate at 14:53 as LaSalle hung on to win 4-3. Game 4 is in LaSalle Tuesday night.
