HIGHLIGHTS: Spitfires vs Bulldogs at WFCU Centre

The Windsor Spitfires rebounded from a lopsided 8-1 in Hamilton Friday with a solid 5-2 Sunday afternoon at the WFCU Centre.

Liam VanLoon got the visitors on the board at 3:49 of the first period. Kyle McDonald tied it up for the Spits in the second period.

Christopher O'Flaherty scored his first of the pre-season redirecting a shot by Pasquale Zito, who was returning from Detroit Red Wings camp, at 12:32 of the middle frame.

Mark Duarte sent the game into the second intermission tied as he streaked through the slot and buried a Noah Nelson pass at 18:04.

The Bulldogs got into penalty trouble in the third as Matthew Maggio scored on a 5-on-3 to give Windsor a 3-2 advantage. James Jodoin picked up a loose puck at the Niagara blueline, steaked into the slot and made a nifty pass to Ethan Miedema who flashed his slick hands before making it a 4-2 game.

Ryan Abraham iced the game with an empty netter as Windsor moved their pre-season record to 2-2. They head to Oshawa Friday before returning home for their final exhibition game next Sunday against the Generals.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
