Highlights: Opening round of Canadian Men's Amateur Championships at Ambassador Golf

A beautiful day at Ambassador Golf for the opening round of the Canadian Men's Amateur Championships. Check out the beauty of the course and some of the action from LaSalle, Ontario.

Alek Mauro of Essex Golf and Country was the top Essex-County golfer finishing with a 1-over-72. He's in 42nd place heading into the second round.

His Essex club mate, Alex Saroli, shot a 5-over-76 a day after winning the Western Amateur Championship at Beach Grove.

Mc Gregor's Luke Warnock worked on his putting after shooting a 9-over-80. He was pleased with the rest of his game but says his putter wasn't on during round one. Warnock shot a 65 at Maple City last week during the local Jamieson Tour.

Jonathan Cramton of Toronto enjoyed Ambassador Golf shooting a 3-over-74. The Laurier Golden Hawk finds himself in the middle of the pack and hopes to improve on his score during round two.

Song Bai travelled from Vancouver B.C. to play in this tournament and earned the best reaction award after sinking a 20-footer on 17. It ended a streak that led him down the road to an opening day 80.

"Another great resource for local sports produced by a person that has been invested in local sports for decades."

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
