High School Football round up

It was a busy Saturday at St. Clair's Acumen Stadium with four football finals. Essex beat Herman 44-6 in the AAA junior final. In the sr. bowl series North Star beat Brennan 18-9 to the claim the school's first bowl victory. Sawyer Krokos threw a 64-yard touchdown pass to Xavier Smethurst in the second quarter to highlight the Wolves offence.

Cardinal Carter took care of Riverside 47-15 in the Essex Ravens Bowl. In the feature game St. Anne shutout L'Essor 35-0 as Jake Scott had himself a night with three touchdowns. Our Anthony Scalzo caught up with the graduating star and has more in the video below.

On Thursday night Kennedy beat Cardinal Carter 39-0 to win the 2A title. We caught up with Aaron Reaume-Gauthier who scored twice and is looking forward to moving up to seniors next year.

And if you missed the comeback, Herman rebounded from a 17-point deficit to beat Holy Names in the AAA final 28-24.

This is why...

Powerplay Sports was born while on a trip to Italy in the summer of 2018. Walking through a charming pedestrian underpass reminded me of being in the tunnel at the University of Michigan in the early part of my career. That feeling led to thoughts of Windsor Lancers football camp opening in three weeks and all of the fall sports that weren't going to be covered because of cuts to local sports coverage by legacy media.

With the support of a loving wife and family, I decided to create Powerplay Sports as a passion project.

I've come across some great people who have helped capture the essence of our community throughout the years like Tony Techko, Tony Doucette, Scott Scantlebury, Dom Papa, Steve Bell, Will Hill, Jim Parker and Mary Caton to name a few.

Please spread the word and follow along here or on social media so we can continue having the priviledge of highlighting our athletes, our community.
